Where the Rubber hits the ground!

Practical Nursing Freshmen students were putting their knowledge of mobility aids to good use when they had a relay race using crutches and walkers.  Each student had the opportunity to use crutches or a walker to sprint across the Platt Central lawn and help their team to victory.   Fun was had by all and no bumps or broken bones occurred during the skills lab activity.

Platt Students Paving the Way

In 2006 Courtney Hess graduated from Platt College’s Pharmacy Technician program and was hired at Flourish Integrative Pharmacy.  PCCA (Professional Compounding Centers of America) selected Courtney for Technician of the Year in April of the following year among technicians around the country! She has also served on the Advisory Boardat Platt Central.
Recently another student, Jill Hassaj, was placed at Flourish Integrated Pharmacy for her externship and again they were so impressed with our students that they already hired her!
On a recent visit to the site, Diane Copeland, our Pharmacy Technician Coordinator met with Courtney and learned she is now the Pharmacy manager, a position that was created just for her.
Both of these students have represented Platt well and we have no doubt they will continue to create their own successes.

Merry Christmas from Platt Central!

I hope everyone is enjoying their Christmas Break...I know at Platt Central we are staying very busy.  This week we have had many students in and out taking advantage of the vast knowledge of their instructors.  Coffee and snacks lured them in, but the information they received from their instructors and Etta, our Remedial Specialist, will carry them through this break where they will be ready to return after the new year.  Students were given the opportunities to bring their little ones while they were studying and several took advantage of this...take at look at these pictures!

Platt Central's Holiday Celebration!

Throughout the year Platt Central has the opportunity to meet hundreds of students...last night not only did we get the chance to see our students but we also had the privilege to meet their families.  77 students along with their families came to a Zio's catered dinner, with deserts provided by Platt Moore's Pastry Arts students and served by our faculty and staff.  While Christmas music played in the background, students spent time showing their children, significant others, and moms and dads where they spend so much of their time these days.  Students were so proud to introduce their family to us...

During dinner the children had unexpected visit from none other than SANTA!!  Take a look at these smiling faces as they told Santa what they want for Christmas...
                Baby's first Christmas!

Even these "BIG KIDS" show that you are never too old to visit Santa!

Platt Central CAN feed the Hungry!

Students at Platt Central host a Bedlam Food Drive to not only benefit Reaching Our City but also some of our very own students that are in need during this holiday season. What a great opportunity to help out a local organization that believes when times are tough everyone deserves a hand up.  ROC provides assistance to address the common needs of families facing tough times.  From supplying groceries to offering a shoulder to cry on, from caring for children to offering a prayer, ROC is making a difference for families in our community and beyond.

FREE MONEY!

All it Takes is...
A Little Time
A Little Effort
Some Dedicated Commitment AND you just might earn some FREE Money!

A BIG Thank you goes out to Barbara Effinger from Platt/OHA Loan Services for taking time out to speak to our students about the Scholarship Opportunities that are available.  Mentioning FREE Money certainly got our students attention.  The room was overflowing with standing room only excited to hear what she had to offer.  Barbara gave the students valuable information about where to search the Internet for scholarships, how to get started, how to avoid scholarship scams, and  what NOT to do! She ended with:
Your Keys to Success:

Career Day/Night

Every other month Platt Central's students come proudly dressed in their best interview attire to receive their awards they have worked so hard to earn.  Awards that are presented by each program instructor/coordinator include: Student of the Month, Winners Attitude, Perfect Attendance, Key 95 and Coordinators Honor Roll.  The Director’s Honor Roll is presented by our campus director, Joey Keefer and the Student Services Star Student is presented by the Student Service Director, Charity Patton.  During this month’s career day, the students were given an opportunity to hear about Infant Crisis Services, INC from their Outreach Coordinator, Mrs. Judith Cope and learn not only the services that they provide to babies in our community but how our students can get involved with this organization.

Are you ready for some FOOTBALL???

The only good thing about Summer coming to an end is...FOOTBALL SEASON BEGINS!  Last week at Platt College we had our own Football Kickoff complete with tailgate snacks and both the Oklahoma fight songs (it was tough for some of us but we did play OU and OSU).  The students took this opportunity to leave their scrubs at home and wore jeans with their favorite team shirt.
