Dentistry from the Heart

The Dental Assistant students from Platt Central volunteer at the 5th annual Dentistry from the Heart today in Chickasha. Students get hands on training assisting dentists from all over Oklahoma with cleanings, fillings, and extractions. Dr. Philips and his staff host this FREE clinic that is open to the public. Hundreds of patients without health insurance will receive free services today thanks to many volunteers.

Platt Students Paving the Way

In 2006 Courtney Hess graduated from Platt College’s Pharmacy Technician program and was hired at Flourish Integrative Pharmacy.  PCCA (Professional Compounding Centers of America) selected Courtney for Technician of the Year in April of the following year among technicians around the country! She has also served on the Advisory Boardat Platt Central.

Recently another student, Jill Hassaj, was placed at Flourish Integrated Pharmacy for her externship and again they were so impressed with our students that they already hired her!

On a recent visit to the site, Diane Copeland, our Pharmacy Technician Coordinator met with Courtney and learned she is now the Pharmacy manager, a position that was created just for her.

Both of these students have represented Platt well and we have no doubt they will continue to create their own successes.

Newest Program at Central!

MOAS program…what does that mean?  MOAS stands for Medical Office Administrative Specialist and our program began at Platt Central on 09/26/11.  The MOAS program develops administrative office skills and prepares our students for entry-level positions such as Administrative Medical Assistant, Front Office Specialist, Medical Secretary, Administrative Office Manager, Billing/Coding specialist, Health Information and Medical Records, or Medical Reimbursement Specialist.  The MOAS program covers a wide variety of job descriptions for employment in various medical clinics, hospitals, and even insurance companies. Our program will provide students with the knowledge they will need to register and schedule patients, properly code and file insurance claims, post insurance reimbursements, as well as, other office duties that may include accounts receivable/accounts payable. MOAS program includes teaching skills in Financial Management for a Medical Practice such as payroll, banking, and bookkeeping, not to mention Office Management responsibilities. 

Platt Central's Instructor Workshop

Since 1979, Platt College exists with one purpose; to create a workforce of professionals with the skills and training necessary to answer the needs of today's and tomorrow's workplace. With this in mind, our Instructors strive to be the best at preparing their students for the workplace.  During the holiday break the instructors participated in a workshop conducted by our Remedial Specialist, Etta Godwin.  Etta has been in education for more than 40 years and thankfully loves to share her vast knowledge with others.  Etta shared characteristics of adult learners, specifically Platt students.  They covered learning styles and the best teaching techniques for those learning styles.

They shared learning games to utilize in their classes and even played one.  ( WOW...you should have heard them, and had you have been in the building you would have.  Hooping and hollering like teenagers.  Learning is fun...when you make it fun! And...who doesn't like having FUN!)

Lastly they talked about how to be sure that students are coming to class prepared so that the instructors can teach and students can learn.  Etta stated " it was a great experience for me and I am really impressed by our instructors and how much they really do care for their students".

Platt Central is ready for our students returning from their Holiday Break on Monday the 9th and the new faces that will be joining them.  Bring on 2012!

Santa Claus is coming to Platt!

Yesterday at Platt College Dallas was a very blessed day!  We invited our students and their children to join us for pancakes and pictures with Santa! What a great turnout! We fed around 20 children plus parents pancakes, colored holiday color sheets, and played.. much anticipating the arrival of the jolly one himself!  Finally, we heard the sound of bells and anxiously awaited the "HO HO HO!" As Santa entered the room the children were ecstatic!  Some ran to, others from :) the man in the red suite! As everything calmed down, the line formed to visit Santa and give him a personalized wish list.  The kids sat, had a picture, and then were given a very special gift from Ol' St. Nick.  The kids loved it.  It touched all of our hearts and made a lasting memory for all of us!  What a special job I have!!  So to you and yours.. Tis' the season to be jolly! From my Platt family to yours, MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Merry Christmas from Platt Central!

I hope everyone is enjoying their Christmas Break...I know at Platt Central we are staying very busy.  This week we have had many students in and out taking advantage of the vast knowledge of their instructors.  Coffee and snacks lured them in, but the information they received from their instructors and Etta, our Remedial Specialist, will carry them through this break where they will be ready to return after the new year.  Students were given the opportunities to bring their little ones while they were studying and several took advantage of this...take at look at these pictures!

Platt North Holiday Event

Platt College North invited students to bring their children to the campus on December 14 to decorate and stuff stockings. This was a fun event that gave students the opportunity to visit the campus while on Christmas Break. The students and their children had a great time making their stockings pretty and finding all kinds of goodies to put in them.
